North
Carolina native, Mysha Caruso, first picked up guitar at the age of 13.
Mysha experimented with various types of music, writing for a rock band
and a jazz/blues ensemble, but ultimately returning to his roots in
Bluegrass and Folk. He traveled and performed with choral and Madrigal
music groups, receiving intensive training with a cabaret theater group
in New York. Mysha honed his songwriting skills while performing at the
Wheelock Theater in Boston. He performed in various venues in
Massachusetts.
Eventually, he returned to North Carolina where worked
with the Appalachian Mountain Club that allowed him to pursue his folk
roots and discover his poetry. His passion for Nature is reflected in
his music.
Mysha attended Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts
when he was 17 where he was classically trained in opera and vocal
performance. He also studied at the Marlboro College in Vermont where he
concentrated on song-writing and story-telling through his guitar.
Besides guitar, Mysha plays mandolin, harmonica, banjo, dulcimer,
cittern, and Irish flute.
Mysha sites his musical influences as Ana
Egge, nature, Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, Jim White, leaves fallin', the
Wailin' Jennys, and The Decemberists.
Mysha's travels eventually
brought him west where he now calls Ashland his home. Mysha can be seen
performing with his group One Horse Shy at various venues in Ashland and
